Sound is everywhere we go and in everything we do. Even when there is a dearth of sound it still
affects us emotionally. There is nothing more unique than being under 80 feet of water listening to
your respirator, hearing the bubbles or the squeaking of rubber while SCUBA diving. The fire of a .45
Caliber 1911 handgun, deep thump of a shotgun, or rotors of a military helicopter raise the adrenalin.
All these elements are a few types of sounds that I have heard and loved throughout my lifetime.
It is creativity, team work, and artistic decisions that lead to the creation and integration of sound for
Films or Television. The ability to work with the picture to further draw in the audience to create the
suspension of disbelief or market a product. Sound Effects create the impacts that can leave an
audience in awe as in the lobby scene from The Matrix. Silence can bring the audience to the edge of
their seat only to be startled as was done in Signs or 1408. Music can bring an audience to tears or
hysterical laughter. For me, every aspect of sound is an inspirational experience that I enjoy creating
for an audience. Whether it is ADR, sound effects, field recordings or the integration of musical
elements.
